The physicomechanical and thermal properties of Algerian Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) wood as a component of sandwich panels

Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis Mill.) is the main forest species of Algeria occupying more than 35% total area country. However, physicomechanical and thermal characteristics Algerian P. wood are not well-known. This research investigates physical (moisture, density, swelling, shrinkage), mechanical (bending strength modulus elasticity), (mass loss under combustion pyrolysis as well conductivity) properties from Darguina (Bejaia) in Algeria. The results showed that with a mean density 540 kg m-3 has good dimensional stability swelling shrinkage, 116.43 MPa bending elasticity 17,520 MPa. shows resistance low-temperature range conductivity 0.21 W m-1 K-1. overall indicate may be commercially exploited for construction insulation applications, namely production sandwich composites.
